(GST) Goods and Services Tax:
Goods and services tax (GST) is a tax on the supply of goods and services in New Zealand by a registered person on any taxable activity. GST is added to the price of taxable goods and services at a rate of 12.5% although it can be zero-rated for exports.
There are three categories of supplies that have specific GST accounting rules:
- Exempt supplies: exempt supplies are goods and services which are not subject to GST and not included in your GST return
- Zero-rated: taxable supplies taxed at the rate of 0% rather than at the standard rate of 12.5%
- Special supplies: supplies different from the normal business sales or purchases
For more information please refer to GST (goods and services tax) on the IRD website.
